The Festival

Our pre-festival events begin with the launch, the Annual Cheese Rolling event, which will be taking place on Bridge Street at 11am on 16th February, 2010.  Cheese Rollers from across the country will gather in Chester to compete for this ancient title.

The main Taste Festival will be held at Chester racecourse in the main pavilion and the parade ring.  Events here will include a large Producers` Market, showcasing the district's impressive variety of top quality produce, from cheeses, meat products, fruit, vegetables, ice cream, shrimps, salmon and cider to homemade chocolates and preserves.

The main pavilion housing the exhibitors will be surrounded by a food court featuring Cheshire restaurants, children’s entertainment and music. The Roodee Bar and Grill will show host our main auditorium for our seminars and celebrity chef cooking demonstrations. There will also be a second demo area featuring even more chefs, many of which you may recognise from your favourite restaurants. Also included is an enlarged Children’s cooking area.

New for 2010 is the Homes and Gardens exhibition which will be showcased within the Roodee. Over 50 chalets featuring everything from plants, furniture, paintings, and arts and crafts will add an additional and stylish element to the festival.
For those looking to make a weekend of the festival and stay in Chester, then why not camp at the classiest campsite you’ll find. During the festival weekend, Chester racecourse will be taken over by 300 campervans as the event also offers camping to festival goers this year.

Throughout the festival fortnight, either side of the Taste Weekend, the city will have special eating offers, tastings in delis and off licenses, food markets and a whole range of activities around the outside of our Easter Taste weekend at Chester Racecourse.

Festival Organiser, Stephen Wundke says: “Each year we aim to make the festival bigger and better than the previous year and this year we have gone even further by adding an additional exhibition and campervan element to the weekend.

“We always listen to the feedback provided by festival goers to create a festival that will be both enjoyable for our visitors but also a platform for local businesses to showcase the wonderful produce that people who are fanatic about good food and drink just can’t get enough of.

“By adding the additional sections to the festival we also hope to encourage a diverse range of people who enjoy and appreciate discovering the very best a lifestyle event can offer.”
