The Festival

Our festival begins on the 14th March with a superb Gala Dinner to celebrate Chester's famous Mystery plays. Each night thereafter restaurants and bars are running key events that all celebrate our love of local food and drink.

The city has special eating offers, tastings in delis and off licenses, food markets and a whole range of activities around the outside of our Easter Taste weekend at Chester Racecourse.

The higlight, with our celebrity chefs, Simon Rimmer, Lotte Duncan and Mike Robinson over easter just shows the rise of the Chester Festival on the national stage.

The Taste Festival will be at the Chester racecourse in the main grandstand area. Events here will include a large Producers` Market, showcasing the district's impressive variety of top quality produce, from cheeses, meat products, fruit, vegetables, ice cream, shrimps, salmon and cider to homemade chocolates and preserves. The main concourse housing the exhibitors will be surrounded by a food court featuring Cheshire restaurants, children’s entertainment and music. The Leverhulme stand will show host our main auditorium for our seminars and cooking demonstrations.

"Our region has an amazing wealth of fine foods and produce, as well as many fantastic eating and drinking venues. The aim of this Festival is to encourage all the different sectors to work together to produce an event befitting this historic and exciting City, its residents and the tourists to our region." Stephen Wundke

The weekend will see a host of different events such as wine, beer, champagne and cheese tastings, cookery demonstrations and competitions. It will add to the special offers at eating and drinking venues around Chester and Cheshire that proved to be so popular in 2007. It all adds up to a very special and unique reason for visitors to come to Chester next Easter Week."

Your favourite bar, restaurant or retailer needs your help to make sure they come out top in the 2008 Chester Food and Drink Awards – cast your vote here or visit bestof.co.uk/chester to see even more.
